Features in SykkelNorge
We are constantly working on content and making SykkelNorge more user-friendly. The site is not very mobile-friendly, and we recommend that you use a tablet or PC for the best possible reading experience. These improvements will be made in 2024. You can easily download GPX tracks to Strava, Ride with GPS, Garmin, Polar etc. If you are going on a longer bike ride, we recommend that you do this to avoid navigational errors, as there are sometimes very poor signposting of nice bike rides in Norway.

Level: Data retrieved from Ride with GPS. Please note that this information is not always easy to decode. The elevation profile displayed on the ride page is a better indicator for choosing the right ride. Then you get both length, surface and total climbing.
Surface: Choose between tarmac, gravel (and mixed) depending on the bike you will be using.
Description of trip type
Starred tour
A ride that has been physically mapped and checked according to the National Cyclists’ Organisation’s own standard. The number of stars from 1-5 indicates the overall quality of the route with scores for each individual element. This makes it easy to choose the route that suits you best.
See a description of the elements here: Starred tour
Green cycling routes
Short journeys from where people live. They are mapped and approved by Syklistenes Landsforening as family-friendly tours.
Commuter routes
The routes are in cities and towns and show the fastest and safest routes to the city centre and workplaces. Many “Green Cycle Routes” are also suitable for commuting by bike.
Our certified Bicycle-Friendly Workplaces are offered mapping of cycle routes for their employees. See info about the “Bicycle-friendly Workplace” certification scheme here: Bicycle Friendly Workplace
Tips from a touring cyclist
Recommended tours from experienced touring cyclists, the Norwegian Cyclists’ Association’s local team and local acquaintances. Not all of them have been cycled by the Norwegian Cyclists’ Association’s surveyors, but some have been certified and awarded the Star Label.
If you have a trip that you would like to share with others, we would greatly appreciate you getting in touch at post@syklistforeningen.no
National cycling routes
Prepared by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and are routes that cover longer distances in Norway. Wherever possible, cycle paths, forest roads and less busy roads are used. However, they often run on or along national roads with a lot of traffic and on pedestrian/cycle paths along busy roads with associated noise. We have posted all the National Routes, even though we have not mapped and added good information ourselves yet, so you can easily find and download the GPX file (as a starting point for planning a bike ride. In general, however, the Cyclists’ Association does not recommend these routes for families with children and others who feel unsafe on roads with car traffic. Some of the National Cycling Routes are already “Starred” so that you can more easily assess whether the trip is suitable for you and your travelling companions.
NRK Cycling summer 2023
The cycling tours that we cycled during the minute-by-minute broadcasts on NRK in July 2023 and go in varied and beautiful Norwegian nature on the Helgeland coast, in Møre og Romsdal and in Gudbrandsdalen.
