E-bike friendliness

At seven square kilometres, Skåtøy is the largest island in the Kragerø archipelago. It has around 250 permanent residents and frequent ferry departures to and from Kragerø town.

Roads are limited, and by cycling two miles out on the dead-end roads to Nødodden and Korset, you can see most of it. There are idylls around every bend and plenty of reasons to stop along the way. Many of the locals live in the area around Skåtøy church, where there is also a café and exhibitions. Most of the route runs through forests and cultural landscapes, while out by the cottage hamlet of Korset you reach the sea and have an unobstructed view. There is pleasantly little traffic on Skåtøy and it’s easy to be a cyclist, even though you climb to fifty metres twice. Mountain biking here is particularly family-friendly.

Hiking tips

By taking a detour towards the Eidkil canal and out on the cul-de-sac to Ødegården, you can continue on foot to Krikken coastal fort, built by the Germans during the Second World War. The trenches and gun foundations are still standing, and it’s a place with great sea views.
