This tour follows the route of the old mountain bike race «Taubanetråkket» between Folldal and Alvdal. Along the way you’ll see many traces of mining and the old cable railway that transported ore to the train station in Alvdal.
This is perhaps the most demanding part of the Seterveien trail, not least because of a really tough uphill section from Kroktjønnan up to Reinslia. Here you climb around four hundred metres in seven kilometres. The surface is a gravel road, so rough in places that it borders on a cart track. You won’t be travelling at a very fast pace – but the natural surroundings are first-class!
At Kroktjønnan, a few kilometres after Grimsbu, you’ll find several special small lakes formed by large pits of dead ice after the last ice age. These lakes are ideal for picnicking and swimming, and there are also lovely hiking trails around the lakes. Further along the route, the pine forest gradually gives way to mountain birch – and at Reinslia you are above the tree line, with great views of Haustdalen and Alvdalssølen in the south. At the eastern end of Haustsjøen you’ll find an «inland fishing village» with a number of fishing arches. At Langsetra, a little further east, there is still active summer farming. After a final uphill section up to Gjotåsen, it’s mostly just long downhill stretches to Alvdal, the last six kilometres on asphalt.
