The Vestfold coast is an easy and attractive area to cycle in, and the trip out to Verdens Ende is no exception. Although there are just over three hundred metres of climbing on the trip, there are no steep uphill sections. The last mile south is very easy cycling. The route is characterised by an urban environment and agglomeration at the start, but gradually slides into a rural/cultural landscape. The free area at Verdens ende offers magnificent sea views as well as several spectacular hiking opportunities.
There are cycle lanes and it is safe to cycle all the way along Fv. 308 southwards. But since there is occasionally a lot of car traffic here, we have diverted the route slightly by using peaceful side roads from Borgheim on Nøtterø, and from Sundene on Tjøme. This provides a completely different cycling experience to the county road.
Restaurants and shops can be found in several places along the way, at Borgheim, Kjøpmannsskjær, Ormelet and all the way out at Verdens ende. There are good bus connections back to Tønsberg if you don’t want to cycle.
Suitable for
The tour is suitable for most people, including children aged 11 – 12.
Bike type
Best suited for hybrid bikes and road bikes.
Hiking tips
The abandoned Torås Fort is one of the sights along the way. The rocky outcrops at Verdens ende and Skåetangen are large, famous and exciting to explore. The signposted hike around Moutmarka (approx. 3 km) offers varied terrain and close contact with the sea and waves.
