Description.
Glommastien is a hiking trail on both sides of the river Glomma between Fredrikstad and Sarpsborg. The stretch selected here is the most peaceful and greenest. In addition to the contact with the Glomma, the area is characterised by woodland, wetlands, parks, marinas and some residential areas.
The Glomma trail has a lot to offer in terms of plant and bird life, not to mention a number of information signs referring to the rich industrial history and activities that existed here until around 1980. There are fishing spots, picnic areas and barbecue areas at several points along the way. Very easy to cycle, no gradients over two per cent. The Glomma Trail is signposted and easy to follow.
For those who want to continue cycling…
If you want to cycle all the way to Sarpsborg, the route is nine kilometres longer and passes Roald Amundsen’s birthplace, among other places. However, the Glomma Trail to Sarpsborg has two stretches totalling four kilometres, where you follow the cycle path along the busy Fv22.
