Route description
Nidelvstien is a distinctly green and natural route that follows the eastern side of the river Nidelva from Nedre Leirfoss downwards. Since it is sometimes used by many others, we recommend cycling the trail south, with a slight incline, to keep your speed down. The trail varies in width from less than a metre, up to a regular wide hiking trail.
Just north of Leirfossen there is a lawn, a bathing area with jetties and benches. There are several picnic benches along the trail. The trail is also part of Østerdalsleden, the pilgrimage trail from Sweden and Trysil towards Nidaros.
Work is underway to extend the Nidelv Trail, mostly on the eastern side of the Nidelva River, all the way to Trongfoss in Klæbu.
For those who want to cycle further…
The Nidelv Trail can easily be extended on another Green Route southwards, from Nedre Leirfoss to Sjetnemarka and Tiller, via Mellomfossvegen and Øvre Leirfoss.
