The roads are busy, but mostly with only a few hundred cars a day. The easiest section runs from Grimsdalshytta eastwards to Fallet on Fv.27, which is almost two kilometres of flats and gentle descents, through the open, beautiful and uninhabited Grimsdalen pastoral valley.
The distance from Fallet to Folldal town centre is eight kilometres, on a road with a speed limit of 80 km/h. If you’re uncomfortable with that, it can largely be avoided if you choose to take the detour up via Streitlia and Knutshovda towards Folldal, which will provide a few extra metres of elevation gain, but also fine viewpoints.

In the centre of Folldal you’ll find a range of services, including a café, sports shop and a mining museum well worth a visit.
The journey to Hjerkinn continues on the Fv.29, except for the stretch on the very peaceful back road on the west side of the river Folla, between Bruvoll and Stor-Eide.
Accommodation, catering and opportunities for organised horseback riding can be found at Hjerkinn Fjellstue, right next to the cycle route. The stretch from Folldal to Hjerkinn rises three hundred metres in altitude, but is generally so gentle that you hardly notice it.

Tour tips
Many great hiking opportunities in the area. A popular and fairly easy hike is to follow the pilgrimage route from Hjerkinn mountain lodge up to the summit at Hjerkinnshøe, 1200 metres above sea level. The walk is just over two and a half kilometres one way.
