National Cycle Route 1 between Bergen and Lindesnes has not been certified and described. The route offers plenty of beautiful scenery, but unfortunately none of our route mappers have cycled this stretch yet. We therefore lack sufficient information about safety, signposting, tunnels, bridges and ferries to be able to recommend it as an optimal cycle route. However, to give you easy access to the GPS track on the route, we have chosen to post the GPX file on SykkelNorge.no.

The Bergen-Lindesnes route includes both tunnels and ferries and offers a lot of beautiful scenery. You’ll pass many cosy towns and cities along the way. We recommend planning your trip well in terms of accommodation and ferry times, so that you can take in the pearls on your trip and avoid waiting for ferries or buses for transport through tunnels that are closed to cycling, or do not want to cycle.

We can recommend accommodation at Clarion Collect Amanda Hotel in Haugesund. They are certified by the Cyclists’ Association as a Bicycle Friendly Host with good facilities for cyclists.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Veivesen) is responsible for the National Cycle Routes with regard to routing and signposting.

This is what the Norwegian Public Roads Administration writes about the route:
«Lindesnes is Norway’s southernmost point and often the starting or ending point for those who cycle the length of Norway. The almost 600 kilometre trip along the coast from Bergen to Lindesnes offers great variation in the landscape and many great nature experiences.

The route is signposted and most of the route is paved.

From Bergen, the route heads southwards via Stord, Bømlo and Haugesund to Stavanger. There are several ferries along the way. South of Stavanger, you’ll cycle across the open plains of Jæren and take detours to the long sandy beaches. The route then continues on a coastal road via Egersund, Flekkefjord, Farsund and finally Lindesnes.
The route is mostly flat and it’s easy to cycle from Bergen to Egersund. From Egersund to Lindesnes, the route is slightly hilly. Although the hills are not very long, they are numerous and you should expect to expend a lot of energy on this part of the route.
The cities and towns are close together along the coast in this part of the country. As a result, there’s plenty of food and accommodation along the way, and it’s easy to combine nature experiences with city life.

There is some traffic around the towns along the route, but you cycle on footpaths and cycle paths at a good distance from cars. For large parts of the route, you’ll be travelling on lightly trafficked minor roads.
