The journey from Sande to Horten is not long, but it is a varied trip with several surprises. You’ll cycle partly close to the sea, partly through clear cultural landscapes, and along the way there are two longer stretches on flat and car-free disused railway lines.

After almost four flat kilometres south from Sande town centre on a separate cycle path, you turn off at Holmåsen onto the pleasant Gamleveien road, which runs through older cottages towards Skjervik. At Ødegården, turn right, cross Fv. 313 and enter the former railway line towards Holmestrand. This has now been graveled and converted into a great walking and cycling route. It runs in beautiful surroundings, partly through cuts and bends in the terrain, towards the end right down by the sea on the way to Holmestrand. There are several organised picnic areas along this route.

In Holmestrand, you can cycle along the lovely pier promenade.

From Holmestrand through Nykirke towards Skoppum, the route is partly on your own cycle path and partly on a road with medium car traffic. From Skoppum you cycle on the disused railway line towards Horten, paved and mostly on a gentle downhill slope. Hiking doesn’t get any easier than this! Just off the cycle path at Skoppum is the niche shop Bikeshop, if you need equipment for your bike.
